This plate has two functions. It houses the lock release handle as well as connects to the lock release cable. If it is on the side of the lock release handle, it houses the handle and allows the user to disengage the locks. If it is on the opposite side, it allows the lock latch to be disengaged when the user actuates the handle. These latches are connected via the lock release cable allowing them to move at the same time.Â
